The Alien Space of Science decomposes papers into reusable conceptual units and separately models coherence and the likelihood that existing researcher communities would propose a combination. Using 16,068 LLM papers, the authors report more diverse idea portfolios by selecting plausible but less familiar directions. They also provide temporal validation using earlier data, but scores remain relative to the literature and evaluation setup. Cognitive unavailability does not mean humans cannot understand an idea or that its scientific truth has been established.
