An account tested Google Maps’ Android Auto EV-routing feature in a Lexus ES. Although multiple brands are supported, users enter the model year, variant, connector and starting charge themselves; the feature does not receive live battery-management-system data. On a roughly 350-mile route, its estimated time differed from the car’s built-in navigation, and range calculations changed with the selected variant. This is a usage case for a feature announced in March, not a new launch. Before long trips, drivers should check actual remaining charge and charging-station conditions.

Suggested routes are a starting point, not a substitute for checking the battery and charging availability.
