Apollo chief economist Torsten Slok argues that AI’s financial payoff remains unclear outside technology, citing diverging revenue per employee and profit margins between the Magnificent Seven and the rest of the S&P 500. An accompanying Ramp sample shows that the top 10% of AI-spending companies account for 95.6% of spending on OpenAI and Anthropic, while 80.4% of companies in the top 1% spending group are venture-backed. These figures describe concentration within that sample, not the whole economy. Sector aggregates and observational data do not establish that AI adoption has no causal benefit.
