PEP 836, which proposed a path from CPython’s experimental JIT to supported status, was withdrawn on October 19. Its authors acknowledged the Steering Council’s high requirements and said they lacked the personal bandwidth to advance the current proposal. They still support free-threading and a method-based frontend and intend to make a reference implementation available. Subsequent reporting discussed plans to remove the experimental JIT from the development branch; this should not be read as its immediate disappearance from existing Python installations. The official PEP is withdrawn, and neither supported status nor default enablement had been approved.
