Economic analyst Joseph Politano estimates that US media, film and arts-related employment fell by more than 200,000 over four years, including roughly 50,000 in the latest year. Film and television lost around 100,000 jobs and publishing about 70,000, while in-person entertainment followed a different trajectory. His analysis discusses consolidation, offshoring and changing consumption alongside generative AI. The employment decline is observable, but attributing all of it to AI replacement or directly translating it into an individual’s job risk goes beyond the evidence.
