Echo Dot Assist retains an older Amazon Echo’s microphone processing and wake-word engine while replacing Alexa with a small daemon connected to Home Assistant. The 2018 Echo Dot 3 is among supported models, whereas the 2019–2020 model and clock variant are excluded; each supported device requires specified firmware. The repository says the Claude-assisted code is unaudited and tested on one unit of each model. Unlocking the bootloader and writing system partitions can brick a device, and firewall mistakes can leave network exposure. The design goal of preventing Amazon traffic is not evidence of a completed security audit.
