An approximately 3,400-year-old Hittite royal archive was discovered at Kayalipinar, ancient Samuha, in Turkey’s Sivas province. The 184 clay tablets and fragments comprise 131 finds from 2026 and 53 from 2025, with accounts of a royal child’s fever and death, requests for military support, and bird divination. A Culture and Tourism Ministry notice and local reporting describe them as evidence of state administration under Tudhaliya II. Ancient illness records do not establish a modern diagnosis or the cause of an epidemic.
