Opera introduced an early WebAI preview in Opera One on October 27. Websites and extensions can use browser-hosted local models for generation, classification and semantic comparison, including Gemma and Apple’s model on compatible Macs. Models are not downloaded before opt-in, and individual sites require permission. The preview targets Windows x64 and Apple silicon Macs, with hardware-dependent performance. WebAI is a proposed standard, not universal cross-browser support; local inference also does not prevent a website from collecting data through other means.
