Open-source collaboration app Petal displays a colleague’s shared editor or browser as a movable, resizable window on the local desktop. Multiple participants can share windows simultaneously and use live cursors, drawing, audio, and remote input for pair programming. Its official repository says remote control requires the sharer’s consent for each request by default. Optional Gemini Live integration is off by default and also requires explicit approval before acting on a window. Petal supports self-hosting with LiveKit, but it is still pre-1.0: macOS is more mature, while Windows support and remote control remain incomplete, early features.
