Brazil’s Vivo launched Starlink direct-to-cell service on October 26. Eligible customers with a compatible 4G phone, Vivo service and current operating-system software can use texts, messaging, maps and supported apps beyond terrestrial coverage. Reports describe 12 free months for qualifying consumer plans and three for business customers; eligibility and device compatibility still need checking. WhatsApp voice use is distinct from ordinary cellular calling, and the service does not provide video or unrestricted web access. Vivo’s total subscriber base should not be confused with the number actually using satellite connectivity.
