Accessory maker Elevation Lab said it would not sell its Silencer product, which removes AirTag warning sounds, after concerns about stalking abuse. The company reversed its position, acknowledging that it had considered unwanted-tracking phone notifications sufficient. When phone alerts are difficult to receive, the device’s sound is another way to detect tracking, so removing it can weaken safety. The company’s plan to use associated patents to block follow-on products does not guarantee that such products will be kept off the market. Users should take unwanted-tracking warnings seriously.
