Anthropic said seven engineers built its internal source-control system, Scion, in roughly five months after daily merges rose from about 2,500 in May to 30,000 in September. By handling commits and merges on the server and downloading only needed files, it says working-tree preparation fell from 7.1 minutes to 5.1 seconds, with substantial reductions in related CPU and memory use. These are internal measurements from a large monorepo. The related Sapling tool also supports large repositories, stacked changes, and Git compatibility, but is not the same implementation. The case illustrates why repository access and CI costs should be measured before focusing on agent counts.
