Google has expanded Android earthquake alerts from 98 to more than 200 territories, adding places including Panama and Guatemala. Alerts are divided into awareness, preparation and immediate-action levels according to expected shaking. An enhanced preparation-stage interface with an epicenter-area map, estimated magnitude and guidance is planned over the coming months. Expanded regional coverage should not be confused with immediate availability of every new screen, and phone alerts do not guarantee advance detection of every earthquake.
