Anthropic says it will give six researchers from independent evaluator METR company equipment, office space and access to internal tools close to that of its risk-assessment team. METR can publish its own evaluations, and Anthropic cannot veto publication itself. The company can request redactions within predefined categories, such as customer information and legally privileged material, while METR may comment on whether those redactions are appropriate. The arrangement reduces information gaps in external review, but its actual independence and effectiveness must be assessed through subsequent evaluations and disclosure.
