Google opened applications for its Registered App Stores program. Android Authority reports that registered third-party stores are scheduled to gain streamlined installation, automatic updates and related features from December 1, initially on Android 17 QPR2 or later outside the U.S. Registration is optional, and unregistered stores retain their existing installation flow. Annual fees and security criteria apply, while U.S. availability has separate conditions. This does not mean all sideloading has already become a one-tap process; it is an enrollment milestone allowing store operators to prepare for a new distribution route.
