Google outlined a more granular approach to contact editing. Reporting says apps targeting the next Android release will use standard user-mediated intents to add or edit one contact, while apps that genuinely need broad management will use MANAGE_CONTACTS. That permission is planned for Android 17 QPR2; the overall change should not be treated as already active on every device. The aim is to reduce the risk of granting an app authority over the whole address book for a single-contact task. Developers should review their editing flows and migration plans against target-version requirements.
