The FBI said it was aware of the roughly $6.3 billion Binance hack and was coordinating investigative steps and damage assessment with public and private partners. Reporting citing Reuters also described US Secret Service cooperation, but that agency did not comment. TRM Labs and Chainalysis pointed to North Korea-linked TraderTraitor, while Binance said it had not yet confirmed the attackers’ identity. The confirmed FBI attribution mentioned in the AP report concerns last year’s Bybit attack, not this Binance incident. Binance said roughly $3 billion in affected assets had been frozen and that it would cover losses. Freezing assets is not the same as returning them or recovering the entire loss.

FBI coordinates Binance hack investigation; attribution remains unconfirmed
Analysts link the theft to North Korea, but frozen assets have not necessarily been returned to Binance.
