Flamerix AI reported that Claude Code generates short status labels from background agents’ transcripts and that these requests represented 19.7% of API calls and 16.4% of estimated cost in one week of its workload. An unofficial Linux hook suppressed the roughly 30-second summaries, eliminating those calls but also stopping status updates. The figures are neither actual invoice totals nor percentages of subscription allowance, and are not user-wide averages. A separate analysis did not claim independent reproduction. Inspecting OpenTelemetry request sources, models and cache usage should therefore come before adopting the workaround.

Measure request sources and caching before treating one workload's overhead as universal.
