datapitfalls checks charts, code, analysis descriptions, and documents for issues such as dropped null values, incorrect joins, survivorship bias, and confusion between correlation and causation across eight domains. The CLI uses the Claude API, and the web app also sends inputs to that API. Its MCP server only supplies rules and makes no API calls or network requests itself. Individual artifacts and documents can be scanned now, while linked analysis across multiple workflow stages remains on the roadmap. The code is MIT-licensed, but the rules use CC BY-NC 4.0 and require separate permission for inclusion in paid products. Rule copies shipped through version 0.11.0 retain their MIT terms.
