FreeDNS provides free and paid services for connecting static or dynamic IP addresses to a personal domain or a subdomain beneath another member’s shared domain. Automatic updates, IPv6, backup DNS and URL forwarding help make devices reachable by name even when their IP address changes. Its official FAQ says public shared domains permit hostname creation without individual owner approval, but ownership does not transfer. Another member’s domain may disappear or change configuration, so using a domain you control gives more dependable control for long-term operations.
