Google’s October 16 privacy-policy update adds an exception to its rule against personalizing ads with Gmail, Drive and Photos content. If users choose to share that data with another Google service supporting personalized ads, the accessing service’s policies and settings apply. Personal Intelligence connections can therefore inform not only Search recommendations but also some advertising. Users who do not want this should review connected apps and personalization settings; disconnecting an app does not necessarily delete data already stored in Search history.
