An account revisits the anonymous threatening letter and surveillance recordings the FBI sent to Martin Luther King Jr. in 1964. Surveillance failed to establish communist ties but produced private material used to attack him; the letter has been interpreted as urging suicide. Historian Beverly Gage uncovered an unredacted version published in 2014. This is therefore neither a new incident nor a document first discovered in 2026, but historical evidence of intelligence powers being used for political intimidation.
