LG Energy Solution has begun operating Nanjing Plant 9 as demand for 2170 cylindrical cells increases, according to a report citing multiple industry sources. Higher utilization of existing lines and Model Y sales were cited as background, but customer-specific shipments were not disclosed. The estimate of more than 50 GWh per year refers to total cylindrical-cell capacity across Nanjing, including Plant 9, not the incremental capacity of that plant alone. EV and data-center demand also involve different battery chemistries in the same format, so capacity figures cannot directly determine Tesla shipment growth.

LG Energy Solution reportedly ramps 2170 cells at Nanjing Plant 9
Industry sources link the ramp to Tesla demand, but total site capacity is not new capacity.
