PostHog described single-node limits on large queries and catalogue-statistics bottlenecks while using DuckDB and DuckLake for a warehouse of roughly 2 PB and one trillion rows. It said accumulated statistics for deleted tables led to minute-long writes, with cleanup providing only temporary relief. The company is moving toward modified Trino and its open table format, HogLake. HogLake centralizes metadata in a PostgreSQL-backed service while storing data as Parquet in object storage. The work covers internal large-scale use and selected partners, not a completed migration of all customers.
