The US NHTSA proposed cyan marker-light standards to signal automated-driving-system operation to police and other road users. Manufacturers would choose whether to install them, while standardized color, brightness and placement aim to avoid confusion with existing brake and emergency lights. The proposal also adjusts some manual lighting-control requirements for vehicles without human drivers. It remains a proposal, not certification of autonomous capability or a blanket exemption from existing safety standards.
