Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen can affect blood flow to the kidneys, making excessive or prolonged use a concern. Risk can be higher with kidney disease or combinations involving certain blood-pressure medicines and diuretics. This does not mean everyone must avoid them or stop prescribed treatment independently. Follow the product’s dose and duration instructions and tell a clinician or pharmacist about kidney health and current medicines before adding a painkiller.
