Anthropic announced that it is donating the Agent Skills standard to the Linux Foundation’s Agentic AI Foundation. The format packages a SKILL.md file with necessary scripts and reference materials in a folder and, according to the company, is supported by more than 70 agent platforms. The name, logo, GitHub organization, and domain will transfer, with engineers from multiple companies maintaining it in their individual capacities. Foundation membership is not required to use or contribute to it. Versioned releases, a formal proposal process, and security guidance for creators and installers are proposed future work, not a completed security assurance.
