Reporting citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple stores are introducing a feature that scans a sealed iPhone and runs diagnostics to check that the device is intact. It targets returns in which components or the entire phone have been removed while allowing genuine sealed stock to return to inventory without opening. The feature reportedly uses equipment already deployed to update iOS inside unopened boxes. This concerns internal retail handling, not a new consumer theft-tracking service or an official claim of completed worldwide rollout.
