Kioxia reported more than 20 million IOPS in 512-byte random reads on an enhanced GP-series model using third-generation XL-FLASH. At about twice the figure announced for GP1 in August, the demonstration targets storage tiers where AI repeatedly accesses small data items. The concept supplements capacity rather than completely replacing DRAM or HBM. It remains a technology demonstration, with the new model’s interface, endurance, and release date undisclosed. Specifications from the earlier GP1 should not automatically be applied to it.

Kioxia demonstrates SSD exceeding 20 million IOPS for 512-byte reads
Small-block read performance is not equivalent to general storage speed or the ability to replace HBM.
