Canva has introduced Craft, its first in-house image generation model. The company says it plans a layout before generating pixels and was trained using Canva templates made by people. It supports 2K output and multiple aspect ratios, is available in Dream Lab, and presents a workflow for turning generated results into editable elements with Magic Layers. API and MCP access, along with a faster variant of the model, are future plans. The announcement focuses on composition and subsequent editing for design work; it is not an independent evaluation showing consistently better quality than competing models.
