The GetLazarus developer released a dynamic-package implementation in his own forks of the Free Pascal compiler and Lazarus IDE. Using type information from shared libraries, it allows components and extensions to be installed or updated without rebuilding the entire IDE, and can also support plugins in custom applications. Unit names must be unique across packages, and stripping required metadata prevents operation. Separate installation instructions describe coexistence with an existing environment through a custom installation directory. This is an implementation in the developer’s branch; no evidence was confirmed that it had entered an official upstream release.

Plugin updates become cheaper, but distinguish this from an upstream release and check unit-name and metadata constraints.
