Developer Rairii reports booting Mac OS 7.6 to the desktop on a real Nintendo Wii in about 40 seconds. The project ports OpenBIOS and patches the bootloader’s memory-address assumptions, interrupt handling and disk drivers. An emulator took roughly 20 minutes and exhibited errors absent on real hardware. Mac OS 9.2.2 booted after the Open Transport extension was removed. The related ROM patch repository also warns that extensions can cause crashes. Work on the Wii’s SD and USB controllers and a Wii U port remains ahead, and the developer says the project is not ready for public release.
