A Tesla using FSD reportedly struck and killed a 71-year-old man crossing I-80 in Vallejo, California, early on October 22. Based on video, police described signs that the vehicle braked and changed direction just before impact, and they are also investigating whether another vehicle struck the man. The Tesla driver remained at the scene. FSD is driver assistance that requires driver supervision, and its use alone does not establish every causal factor in a collision. The confirmed harm should be distinguished from causes still under investigation, without treating driver assistance as removing the driver’s duty to monitor the road.
