In a Gartner survey of 2,002 CIOs, 13% said they had achieved large or transformational results from AI. That does not mean all the others received no revenue or cost benefits. While 58% faced demands to reduce costs, 51% expected AI to increase technology costs, and many said their CEO was asking them to demonstrate results. Organizations need to evaluate actual work outcomes, including processing time, quality, and operating costs, rather than deployment counts or numbers of pilot projects. The survey records respondents’ perceptions; it is not an experiment measuring the causal effects of individual products.
